Predator 3500 Inverter Generator Review

Predator 3500 Inverter GeneratorIn this Predator 3500 Inverter generator review, we take a look at what at a first glance seems to be an ideal generator. Even when it comes to your RV, it can probably provide all the power you need. Surely, it could be quieter, but the generator has an excellent performance and is incredibly lightweight. All in all, the generator is highly recommended as it is very similar to Honda generators as well.

Performance

Like already mentioned, Predator 3500’s performance is pretty amazing. It comes with a 212cc engine which is also air-cooled. It offers a peak power of 3,500 watts and running power is at 3,000 watts. This may not seem like a lot but it is actually more than enough to power up your appliances. Especially if you use it with your RV’s AC port. You will be able to power up a refrigerator and lights with only 3,000 watts.

On its peak power, 3,500 watts, you will be able to use it for extra devices and appliances. That is usually for the devices that need extra power like an air-conditioner or a fridge. In this way, you don’t need to worry about overloading your generator and about appliances cutting out for one reason or another.

The Predator 3,500 will definitely run any of your devices at home such as AC, fridge, LED lights, even a PC or a TV. In order to know what appliances to run at the same time, all you need to do is add up wattages of different devices in your home. You also need to make sure you’re not going too off grid. Also, make sure that several power-hungry devices don’t run at the same time.

The Predator 3,500 also produces clean energy. This means you will be able to power up several sensitive devices with this generator. Such devices include a laptop or a smartphone. One does not need to worry about the generator overloading as it has protection. Over the years, it became important for buyers to find a generator that safely powers their RV.

On top of having an excellent performance, the generator allows you to safely power up several different appliances. And, all that without having to disconnect other devices. Many generators with such wattage usually don’t have ability to power up several devices without any disconnections.

Predator 3500 Inverter Generator, side viewNoise Rating

Not only does Predator 3500 generator have a good performance but it’s also very quiet. That’s especially the case if you take into consideration the amount of power it produces. Its noise rating is at 57 dB when it’s not on a full load. You can, of course, expect it to be louder on a full load.

This noise rating can be compared to the background music. That is because background music is about 60 decibels so this generator is slightly quieter than that. This also means you will barely notice that the generator is even there. Due to it being very silent, one can also use it outdoors without any problems. You will be able to enjoy nature when camping despite the generator being on as it won’t annoy you with the noise.

Weight & Portability

On a full tank, Predator 3500 generator weighs close to 115 pounds. This will make the generator one of the lightest ones among the medium-sized generators. So, overall, it is quite portable and not as heavy as expected. The higher the wattage the higher are the chances of a generator being heavy.

The Predator 3500 comes with handles and a wheel kit. This adds to the generator’s portability so you can easily move it around. However, the wheels that come with it aren’t really the most reliable once. They only perform well if the ground is smooth and even. If you want, you can change the wheels for more substantial ones.

That is, of course, personal preference. If you are the type to use a generator a lot, then it is recommended that you do so. However, if you only need it every now and then, then it shouldn’t be your top priority.

The generator best runs on unleaded gasoline. This allows it to be fuel-efficient and not as heavy as those who don’t use that kind of gas. This also makes the generator really great for your RV. If it is one of your top priorities, then this generator will fulfill them for you.

The Predator 3500 is very easy to use and is low maintenance. You can even convert it to use propane gas instead of diesel. However, if you do so, expect it to have a few hundred less watts. Overall, it’s still better to use diesel instead of propane. But, if you prefer propane than that is what you should know. If you decide to use propane, it might void the warranty. So, be careful if you decide to upgrade to propane.

Other than that, the Predator 3500 has an oil tank of two-point-six gallons. It features an automatic low oil shut off. This prevents the engine from getting damaged for any reason. On a full tank, the generator can run for eleven hours on only 25% of load. That is quite a lot and this makes it almost perfect run time.

This great fuel efficiency and low fuel consumption makes it ideal for everyday needs when dry camping. If you want to go off grid, you’re definitely going to need to make a few adjustments regarding fuel consumption. For example, it is not recommended to use power-hungry devices and AC running at the same time in such cases.

There is no fuel gauge that comes with the Predator 3500. Some people, especially beginners, might think that this is an overall bad thing. However, the generator has an automatic low oil shutoff as well as the hours counter. With those two, there is no real need for a fuel gauge to be there. A fuel gauge is more convenient, sure, as all you need to do is glance and check the fuel. However, it’s not a feature you just can’t go without.

Start Up

Another advantage of the Predator 3500 is that it has an electric start. This is probably the easiest and the most convenient starter. There is no possible way that you can make a mistake when starting it. On top of that, the generator comes with batteries once you purchase it. This way, you don’t need to trouble yourself and find batteries yourself.

Features

The Predator 3500 also has a lot of useful features. A lot of those features can also be seen on generators that are even more expensive. Like already mentioned, there is an automatic low oil shut down to protect the engine from damaging. This also adds to the generator’s low-maintenance quality. There is even an indicator light to tell you when the oil levels are low.

Other than that, one can find an LCD display on the generator. It is very easy to use and readable. This adds to the convenience of the generator. You will be able to find an overload indicator light and outlet indicator. The overload indicator light warns you when the generator is overloaded. The outlet indicator tells you which outlet is being used at the moment.

The Predator 3500 is also parallel capable. Thanks to that, you will be able to connect another generator to this one and gain even more power. On a more negative note, Harbor Freight kits are not found very easily. So, you might have a little trouble finding one for parallel running. If you are good with generators, you might even figure out how to do it yourself. But, keep in mind that it will void your warranty.

The Predator comes with four outlets. There are two 120 volts AC outlets which are grounded. The other two are 120 volt AC twist-lock outlets and a DC two pin outlet of 12 volts. The DC outlet can be used for charging your devices. On top of that, you also get a 30-amp RV adapter, DC cable, spark plug wrench, a screwdriver as well as fuel funnel. All of that comes in a box with the generator. Quite worth the money, isn’t it?

Service & Maintenance

It is recommended to change the fuel if you’re not using the generator for a few months. The low oil indicator and hours counter make it easy to maintain too. With them, you will be able to know how long you’ve had the generator running since last check-up. The Predator 3500 also comes with a 90 day full refund or replacement warranty.
